There is a risk of strong thunderstorms in Arkansas starting Thursday afternoon

A strong storm system will arrive in Arkansas on Thursday, impacting the state with strong winds and heavy rain.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A strong storm system will arrive in Arkansas late Thursday afternoon, hitting the state with strong winds, heavy rain and even the possibility of a few tornadoes.

How high is the risk of the storms?

The greatest threat of severe weather remains in southwest Arkansas, where the current risk is low or 2 out of 5.

There is currently a 1 in 5 risk for central Arkansas, but that could change by Thursday morning.


When are the storms coming?

As for timing, the latest high-resolution radar satellite data suggests there will be a line of storms across western Arkansas by 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

During the evening hours, the line of storms will be near/over central Arkansas and eastern Arkansas around 10:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

The line of storms is expected to advance east of the region by midnight, with the risk of the severe weather subsiding.
