This evening, tonight, strong to severe storms

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY APPLIES TODAY AND THIS EVENING:

A First alert weather day is in effect today and this evening as strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across portions of middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. A developing storm system will approach from the southwest late this afternoon, bringing an area of ​​showers and thunderstorms to our area. Rain and storms will initially arrive over southwest Middle Tennessee around 2:00 p.m. and move northeast toward Nashville around 4:00 p.m. Expect rain, lightning, thunder and possibly isolated strong gusts of wind during the heaviest rainfall. Rain/storms will continue northeastward in this area through early evening.

From around 9 p.m. a stronger line of thunderstorms will move in from the southwest. This round of storms has a greater chance of damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes and some localized flooding. This round of storms will sweep across the entire midstate, eventually exiting the Cumberland Plateau region by 3 a.m. After 3 a.m. on Sunday, the major threat will be over.

A flood warning has been issued for southwest Kentucky from 6:00 p.m. today until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

A few lingering showers are expected early Sunday. It remains mild with a high around 60.

Some sunshine returns on Monday. Low: 46. High: 64.

New Year’s Eve and beyond:

There will be a few showers in the Midstate early Tuesday/New Year’s Eve. Dry weather is expected on Tuesday night.

Colder, dry weather is forecast for New Year’s Day and beyond.
