This is how the finale of the “Blue Bloods” series ends

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Blue blood Series finale, “End of Tour.”

Blue blood has reached the end of the line.

The long-running police procedural aired its series finale, titled “End of Tour,” on Friday night, completing 14 seasons on CBS. The episode offered each member of the Reagan law enforcement dynasty a fitting (albeit bittersweet) farewell, providing a strong sense of hope as the series ends.

The episode begins with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) investigating the murder of a judge who had previously rejected threats from the Ace Double Treys gang. The next episode shows Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) and Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) responding to a carjacking that quickly turns into a shootout with two motorcyclists. The duo hits one of the shooters while the other escapes – and Badillo ends the encounter with life-threatening injuries, while Janko is wounded in the arm.

Meanwhile, Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh) Also is shot in a drive-by shooting while overseeing a ceremony at a new historic landmark. Frank (Tom Selleck) visits him in the hospital and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) watches a video in which a gang leader calls for amnesty for imprisoned gang members.

At the hospital, Frank explains that there was a coordinated attack in which four police officers were shot and a New York police precinct was set on fire. The mayor entrusts Frank with running the city (under the table, of course): “I’ll give you the keys. You drive. Get us out of here.”

Janko wakes up in the hospital and asks where her partner is. Jamie (Will Estes) remains awkwardly silent as another officer says, “He’s not here.” Janko continues, “Not here in this hospital? Or not here anymore?” Jamie shakes his head. “There was nothing they could have done,” he tells his wife, confirming that Badillo succumbed to his wounds.

In perhaps the stupidest decision of the episode, another police officer approaches the room and announces, within earshot of Janko, that Badillo’s shooter is on the same floor of the hospital. Janko freaks out and demands to see the shooter face to face by jumping out of bed. “I have every right to see him!” she screams as hospital staff calm her down.

Afterwards, Joe (Will Hochman) and Jamie decide to use all means possible to find Emilio Mars, another shooter. Meanwhile, Danny analyzes a video of the executed judge and identifies the killer as Carlos Ramirez (Manny Perez) – the Ace Double Treys member who caused a stir before escaping in a helicopter in the midseason premiere.

Later, Ramirez’s mother enters the station and Danny tells her that Ramirez’s daughter Amelia didn’t show up for school. Amelia, who befriended Janko in the midseason premiere, calls the wounded detective and tells her that Ramirez has taken her to an unknown location.

Erin and her ex-husband Jack Boyle (Peter Herrman) interrupt the action with a tender scene that (re)defines their blossoming relationship. “You know, when the going gets tough, we work really well together,” she says. “Maybe we should do something about it…despite our best efforts, we’re still here. With one foot in and one foot out. Maybe we’ll try it with both feet.” Erin surprises Jack with a low-key marriage proposal (without a ring) and he agrees to her terms: “Group of two, town hall. Tell everyone afterwards.”

Next, Frank visits Lorenzo Batista (Edward James Olmos), the father of another of the shooters, to pressure him into revealing information about his son. After a long, harsh banter, Frank becomes personal and refers to his dead son Joseph. “If someone said to me before it happened, ‘You have a choice. We can kill him now or he can spend the rest of his life in prison,’ I’ll tell you what: I wouldn’t bat an eyelid,” he said. “I would be up there in prison any chance I got, with a bag of hamburgers for us and a deck of cards so we could spend time together, just playing gin and shooting the bull. And I would be really happy to be there.” . And eternally grateful for the opportunity, for I know the cold darkness that the other choice brings.”

Later, Danny receives a pep talk from his grandfather Henry (Len Cariou), who implores him to settle down. “I always told you not to take the job home with you,” Henry says. “From what I can see, you did a good job with this. But the problem now is that you have no one.” not to bring it home. I have no doubt that you will catch these people and move on to another case and another case. The problem is…”

“That I have no one not “To bring it home?” asks Danny.

“Promise me you’ll find someone when this case is over,” Henry replies.

Danny accompanies Baez on a raid on Ramirez’s house. When he sees Amelia, he tries to appeal to the gangster’s paternal feelings. “My father always told me that children learn from their father’s example, not from his words. This could go wrong,” says Danny. Ramirez tells his daughter to go upstairs and then points a gun at his own head. Danny begs him not to take his own life: “You could still be her father. You could still give her advice. Come on, she’s already lost her mother, don’t let her lose her father too.” Ramirez drops the gun and surrenders.

Jamie and Joe also track down their suspect by tracking him to the hospital where his partner has just given birth. Jamie pushes the perpetrator against the wall and, in a moment of poetic closure, Janko arrives and puts Badillo’s handcuffs on him. We also see Frank driving past a building as Batista’s son is taken into custody, suggesting that Olmos’ character gave him up to save his life.

In Danny’s final scene at the station, Amelia thanks him for saving her. Then Danny honors his grandfather’s wishes and asks Baez to eat pizza with him, and the duo leaves the office with their arms crossed.

After Badillo’s almost wordless funeral, the finale fittingly ends with a final family meal. Erin announces that she has an announcement to make, but is interrupted by Janko, who brings a wooden high chair to the table. “This is my high chair from my childhood,” she says.

“We’ll use it when the baby is born,” Jamie adds. Congratulations abound.

“I’m just glad you all know now because we’re going to need all the parenting advice we can get,” Janko says.

“Oh, just trust your gut,” Frank replies.

“I can’t think of anyone who would make better parents than the two of you,” Danny adds.

After a light-hearted argument about what gender the baby will be, Joe chimes in: “Whether it’s a he or a she, if I may, they’ll be really happy to be part of this family.”

Erin eventually backtracks on her announcement and turns the conversation to work. “I think we’re getting a murder charge against Badillo’s killers,” she says, giving Jack a knowing smile that suggests they’re saving the big news for another time.

Frank ends the episode – and with it the season and the series – with an appreciative note. “You know, we have a lot to be grateful for,” he says. “And as I look around this table, I have to say I couldn’t be prouder or more grateful.”
