Three things that caught our attention after the Vikings beat the Seahawks

The Seahawks did enough good on Sunday to have the Minnesota Vikings, now 13 wins, on the ropes.

But they failed to deliver the knockout blow and now face a very narrow and perhaps impassable path to the playoffs.

Simply put, the Seahawks have to win their two remaining games (Thursday at Chicago, to close out the regular season at the LA Rams) and hope that the Rams also lose to Arizona this week.

As I said, a narrow street.

As we wrap up coverage of the 27-24 loss to the Vikings, here are a few things that were said in the postgame press conference that caught our attention.

“I was just as surprised as all of you”

We usually highlight things the Seahawks have said, and we will, but one thing in particular stood out to us about Theo Jackson of the Vikings. He is the defensive back who secured Geno Smith’s game-winning interception in the final minutes. Jackson described what he saw:

“Honestly, I was just as surprised as all of you. We were two-high, I saw him throw it, and I was a little confused myself as to why he threw it. I’ll catch the ones he throws to me, so it was super exciting. “I’m still losing the adrenaline right now,” Jackson said.

Saying he was confused about why Geno threw the ball near him is something. Geno, the absolute leader, took full blame.

“Intercept, man. Anything you see that goes wrong, write it to me. Anything that doesn’t look right, write it to me,” Smith said after the game.

Seahawks fans may have expressed frustration with the timing of Smith’s interceptions, including one that gave Minnesota three points deep in Seahawks territory in the first half. Mike Macdonald wanted to set the record straight for his quarterback.

“Geno is our best competitor on our soccer team. We won’t be sitting here with our lives at the end of December unless Geno has done the things he did. He’s a fighter, man. I thought he played a good game,” Macdonald said.

What now?

Sure, the playoff situation is bleak compared to just a few weeks ago, but there’s no doubt the Seahawks are still fighting. We saw this fight even in a loss on Sunday. But make no mistake, the team travels to Chicago on Thursday hanging on the outcome of their season.

“It should hurt,” Macdonald said of Sunday’s loss.

“We worked incredibly hard. We’ve been through a lot of adversity as a team. We will stick together and get back to work. So we fight for the right to stay alive, in one short week. “What are you going to do?” he added.

“We just have to do our part, which is to win. Then let the chips fall where they fall. Hopefully we’ll have some luck and get in there. But it’s tough in there,” linebacker Ernest Jones IV said.

“Yeah, we need to go in now and put it behind us. We have to prepare for Chicago. In these short weeks, you can’t really bask in it, especially when you’re losing, you can’t really bask in it.” Previous game, because in three days we’re going to be playing a completely different team that doesn’t care that we do Just lost the game. “For us, the focus is moving forward, taking care of business in Chicago in prime time and then we’ll see what happens with this matchup against the Rams,” Jones added.

Jaxon’s breakout season continues

Seahawks second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba continues to enjoy a breakout season. To this point, he has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark this season, receiving 95 yards on 8 catches this Sunday.

On a disappointing day, it’s a sign that something special is coming to the Seahawks’ receiving room.

“First, I want to thank God that he is healthy, feeling good and that he can go out and put on the Seahawk helmet. That means a lot to me. Geno too. I want to thank Geno, and “The rest of my teammates, the receivers who open me up, and the O-line are doing their thing,” Smith-Njigba said of his milestone while also acknowledging the veterans who showed him the way .

“It means everything. Everything for this organization. The way he (Lockett) conducts himself, just everything he’s done for this organization and city. He is a leader and I respect him very much. I feel like I’m in the best possible position with T-Lock and DK and all these other guys. “T-Lock, he’s a special guy and I’m just blessed to have his friendship and have him as my teammate,” Jaxon said.

“(JSN) plays great football for us and fights back. We love him. We are happy for him,” said Macdonald.

The Seahawks now get back to work on a holiday week, playing Chicago on Thursday night on the 26th at 5:15 p.m.
