Tiger Woods appeared on “Eye Of The Tiger” on the second night of the tech-savvy Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL), and although he followed up that boxing performance with a performance that left his team flat on the screen, the audience was thrilled for sure Case grateful.

Serena Williams, an investor in the indoor simulation league, was part of a 1,500-strong crowd at the Sofi Center, the $50 million purpose-built stadium near Woods’ home in South Florida.

In fact, Jupiter Links Golf Club is essentially the home team for this concept – owned in part by Woods and Rory McIlroy – but support soon faded. The Woods trio – with Max Homa and Kevin Kisner supporting them – were eliminated by LA Golf Club with England’s Justin Rose 12-1. Jupiter was so bad that Homa asked, “Are they going to kick us out of the league?”

The answer, of course, is a deafening “no.” Woods is the undisputed star, bringing out other familiar names on his own opening night, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, not to mention Woods’ son Charlie and his mother Kultida. The latter cheered when Woods finally landed a putt on the final putt, while Serena, theoretically the owner of LAGC, quipped: “Well, it’s about time.”

Woods took it all in good spirits and nearly fell over in hysterics when Kisner fired a shot from a bunker that fortunately did no harm to any of the spectators. Woods, 49, understands that his iconic status is vital to TGL’s success and was willing to improve his poor game.

“I think we might not break 100,” Woods said on the ESPN broadcast. “We had about five balls in the hazard. I messed up a bunker shot, Kiz almost killed someone…”

It will be exciting to see the viewership numbers when they are released on Thursday. The first game attracted a million, which was considered a decent return, but given the 15-time major winner, expect much more. With Woods still struggling to recover from his sixth back operation in September, there are fears that his participation in competition on the tour proper could be severely limited and TGL could be as good as it gets.

“Walking is not the problem, it is my game that is not very good”

Afterwards, Woods expressed doubts about whether he would be able to compete in next month’s Genesis Invitational, sponsored by his charitable foundation. “As far as playing goes, I did all three rounds at PNC (the Tour’s father-son event last month) and had a great time there,” he said. “The walking isn’t the problem, it’s my game that isn’t very good.”

Of course, it is extremely doubtful whether the Genesis will take place at its traditional home, the Riviera Golf Club in LA, which is close to the epicenter of the raging wildfires.

“We’re just trying to figure everything out and make sure everyone is safe and we have meetings planned for the future,” Woods said. “But at the moment we’re not really focused on the tournament. It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who is struggling, who has lost their home and whose life has been changed.

“It’s just sad. Max and I grew up there. We are So Cal kids. To see what happened, I knew a few people who lost everything, so it’s just hard.”
