Tim Tebow on the Broncos’ thrilling 2011 Wild Card victory over the Steelers

This week, Touchdown Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Heisman Trophy winner and former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Tebow discussed working with a nonprofit in New Orleans on behalf of the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Son of a saint for a day of mentorship and reflected on the Broncos’ memorable victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2011 AFC Wild Card game.

“Son of a Saint is hosting a mentor day with many great young men who have sadly lost their father,” Tebow said. “Son of a Saint is their mentor and gives them lots of great opportunities. And so we split up into stations and just had the opportunity to celebrate with all members of the Good Works team and then give something back together.

“I’m just so proud of all of these young men, not just what they do on the field, but more importantly who they are and how they perform off the field. I think it’s great that Allstate allows us to celebrate these young men as members of the Good Works team and the partnership of people that come together, from the AFCA to the Wuerffel Trophy to the Wuerffel Foundation to so many people. “

Tebow was the starting quarterback for most of the 2011 season and led the underdog Broncos to the postseason. Throughout the year he spoke about the unity of the team as essential to their success and the AFC West division title.

“Brotherhood and the belief that this team was just a special team that probably wasn’t the best team in every way. That is, did we have all the perfect parts? Maybe not, but man, that was a tight team, that team that never gave up,” Tebow said. “It was a team that, like people, put the word brotherhood in their mouths, much like you.” Really I feel like it was.

“One of the coolest things is when you see the touchdown to DT (Demaryius Thomas) to win the game; If you look at the large copy, you’ll see that Champ Bailey, one of the best cornerbacks to ever do it, is on the sidelines running almost as fast as DT. However, this is a long-time veteran who has put in overtime.”

Tebow completed 10 passes for a career-high 316 yards and two touchdowns, including the famous 80-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime.

“It was the veterans. We had Brian Dawkins, Champ Bailey and Elvis Dumerville,” Tebow explained. “Then. They had the young guys, Von Miller, DT and Eric Decker. Still, I think the relationship, the camaraderie and the never say die attitude is just something really special. I think I’ll always take that with me. I think “What set us apart was this sense of shared faith, and we will not give up.”
