The iconic New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square will take place in less than 24 hours to ring in the New Year, and among the crowds in New York City will be Ryan Seacrest, who will host ABC’s New Year’s special “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” Ryan Seacrest 2025 .

The iconic venue is ready for celebrations after rapper Pitbull unveiled the 2025 New Year’s Eve Ball on Friday and installed the final glass tiles. Final preparations for the event took place Monday when organizers conducted a test run in which they lit up the ball and sent it to the 139-foot-tall pole at One Times Square.

This year’s New Year’s Eve ball, which symbolizes “unity and enduring love,” is a geodesic sphere 12 feet in diameter and weighing 11,875 pounds, according to Times Square.

All 2,688 tiles decorating the ball are made by Gillinder Glass, a New York-based manufacturer, and replace the previous ones for this New Year’s Eve celebration, Times Square said, adding that the “ball is capable of a palette of more as 16.” Millions of vibrant colors and billions of patterns that create the spectacular kaleidoscope effect.”

The ball-dropping tradition in Times Square began in 1907, although New Year’s Eve celebrations at this legendary venue first took place in 1904.

The Times Square website says, “This proud tradition is now a universal symbol of the New Year.”

How to watch and stream ABC’s New Year’s Eve special

Ryan Seacrest, celebrating his 20th year as host, will host “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2025” on ABC live from New York City. Rita Ora will join him as co-host and Carrie Underwood will appear shortly before midnight. Other artists include the Jonas Brothers, Alanis Morissette, Reneé Rapp, Dasha, Fat Joe, Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh, Ernest, HARDY, Kesha, Laufeny, Natasha Bedingfield and T-Pain.

The show will air live on ABC on Tuesday, December 31st at 8pm EST and will be available to stream on Hulu the next day.

According to the media company, approximately 22.2 million viewers tuned in to ABC’s 2024 New Year’s special at midnight.

When is the ball drop?

The Times Square Ball Drop celebration begins just before 6 p.m. ET on December 31st and the New Year’s Eve ball will be lifted to the top of the pole at One Times Square. At 11:59 p.m. ET sharp, the ball will descend the flagpole for 60 seconds, signaling the start of the new year.

Who will perform on New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s celebrations in Times Square will include performances by rock legend Lenny Kravitz, Mark Ambor, Grammy-nominated country singer Mickey Guyton, Carrie Underwood, Megan Moroney, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the Jonas Brothers, TLC, Greeicy, De La Ghetto and Kapo , and the dance group AGNEW, among others.

Underwood will perform a medley of some of their greatest hits just before the ball drops at midnight, followed by Guyton, who will then perform the special New Year’s tradition in Times Square, singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” just before the ball drops.

Here’s how to watch the ball drop in Times Square

While several networks will broadcast the New Year’s Eve festivities live on their television channels and streaming platforms, viewers can also watch the live webcast on the official Times Square website starting Tuesday, December 31, at 6 p.m.

“Enjoy commercial-free webcast coverage of the festivities leading up to the ball drop at midnight, including backstage access, behind-the-scenes stories and interviews with artists and other celebrities,” the Times Square website says.

A livestream with open captioning and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will also be available on YouTube.
