Time to watch the CFP game

College football history will be made Friday in Indiana by two teams that, despite being less than 200 miles apart, have a sparse shared history.

On one side is Indiana (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten), which achieved historic success under first-year coach Curt Cignetti, earning a 10th seed in the College Football Playoff. On the other side is Notre Dame (11-1), a program that enjoys a place among the sport’s bluebloods but hasn’t had a national championship win since 1988.

Curt Cignetti angers the crowd at Notre Dame

ESPN’s “College GameDay” caught Indiana coach Curt Cignetti for an interview about two hours before kickoff, with the publicly brash Indiana coach rarely missing an opportunity to address the thousands of Notre Dame fans gathered behind him upset.

Cignetti said he heard Friday’s crowd at Notre Dame Stadium could be “20 to 25 percent” Indiana fans. However, if they don’t own red winter jackets, it might be difficult to judge. While that comment drew some boos, his most explosive remark came when he addressed the alleged deficiencies in Indiana’s resume due to its lack of wins against teams currently ranked in the top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll. Cignetti pointed out that Nebraska was No. 25 in the coaches’ poll when the Hoosiers beat it 56-7, and that his James Madison team defeated the then-No. 23 Coastal Carolina 47-7 in 2022.

“We don’t just beat top 25 teams,” he said. “We finished them off.”
