It’s starting to look like Christmas in midtown Manhattan and Rockefeller Center will join in the holiday party with its annual tree lighting on Wednesday.

This year’s tree comes from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts – the first tree from that state since 1959. The tree is an 11-ton spruce that stands 74 feet tall and 43 feet wide.

Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree features over 50,000 multi-colored LED lights connected by approximately five miles of cable.

On Wednesday, the tree will be lit on a national prime-time television program on NBC hosted by Kelly Clarkson.

The tree will be lit just before 10 p.m. East Coast.

For those in New York City who would like to see the lighting in person, the special event will take place at the tree above the rink at Rockefeller Center between 49th and 50th Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues.

Although the area surrounding Rockefeller Center is open to the public, spectators can purchase tickets to have their photo taken with the tree in the background. VIP tickets are also available for a seat closer to the tree.

Early coverage of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting begins at 6:30 p.m. on the NBC New York streaming channel on the NBC NY app, Peacock or wherever you stream.

Full coverage begins at 7 p.m. on NBC New York with “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” hosted by Natalie Pasquarella, David Ushery and Mario Lopez.

The national broadcast begins at 8 p.m. on NBC television, hosted by Kelly Clarkson and joined by TODAY stars Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Craig Melvin.

On Christmas Eve the tree is lit for a full 24 hours, while on New Year’s Eve the spruce tree is lit from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m

There it is milled into two by four and two by six bars and stamped with a Rockefeller Center stamp. Tishman Speyer, the company that owns and operates Rockefeller Center, then donates the wood to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that helps build and improve homes across the country.
