Timothée Chalamet impresses at “College GameDay”

Timothée Chalamet didn’t think twice and was more than fine on Saturday’s edition of “College GameDay” on ESPN.

Some were curious as to why Chalamet, a New York-born actor who appears to have no connection to Power 5 football, was chosen as a guest selection for the college football program ahead of the SEC title game in Atlanta.

Well, the “A Complete Unknown” star has shown that he has some serious chops in the sports pundit community.

Not only that, but he also appeared to do a lot of research when making his selections ahead of an important slate of conference championship games.

He was particularly notable for his selection to the SWAC (Jackson State) and the MAC (Ohio).

“Jackson State, eight straight wins, 11 all-conference players – this should be a comfortable, easy win for them,” Chalamet said with plenty of confidence, getting plenty of encouragement with back-tips from show regulars Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit.

Instead of picking a favorite in the MAC title game between Miami of Ohio and Ohio, Chalamet had his reasons for choosing an upset.

“The Red Hawks defense looks good, but I’m looking at fourth-year quarterback Parker Navarro. Completion rate of 65 percent. If he can get going, he’ll swing things in the Bobcat’s favor. I’m going here for Underdog Bobcats, Underdog Bobcats.”

This bold decision earned McAfee a strong handshake.

And when it came down to it, Chalamet thought hard about his SEC Championship pick, and when it came down to it, he chose the Texas Longhorns over the Georgia Bulldogs, much to the chagrin of the UGA fans in attendance.

College football social media was largely impressed with the actor’s athletic preparation.

“You’re all stupid if you doubt Timothée Chalamet’s ball skills. He drank the water of life,” podcaster Ross Bolen wrote on X.

“Timothee Chalamet, I owe you an apology – I was unfamiliar with your game,” College Sports Only wrote, referencing the widely shared Shaquille O’Neal meme.

“Timothee Chalamet was a true college football fan, an SMU fan, and knowing all those teams was so crazy to me. “I thought he was just invited because he was famous, but he really was a great guest picker on college game day,” wrote the Ringer’s Chris Vernon.

Fox NFL writer and NFL Network personality Peter Schrager didn’t mince his words.

“Timothee Chalamet was prepared, researched and referenced the Pony Express. Perhaps the best collegiate game day guest selection player yet. New York guy. Respect,” he wrote.

In a season that featured many famous personalities such as actor Keegan-Michael Key, Pirates star Paul Skenes, gymnast Olivia “Livvy” Dunne and swimmer Michael Phelps, Chalamet might have been the best and most prepared player .
