Timothée Chalamet is “grateful” to receive Bob Dylan’s seal of approval for “A Complete Unknown.”

musician Bob Dylan He usually lets his music do the talking, but this week he responded to the new biopic “A Complete Unknown” about his early career. He tweeted: “Timothée Chalamet plays the main role. Timmy is a brilliant actor, so I’m sure he’ll be as believable as I am. Or a younger me. Or any other me.” Now Chalamet responded on Twitter in kind.

“Flooring. I’m so grateful. Thank you, Bob,” the 28-year-old actor said simply. Chalamet plays Dylan at the beginning of his storied career, since his encounter with folk legends Pete Seeger (Edward Norton) And Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy) to his crossover success as a folk artist and his struggles with fame, and finally to his performance at the Newport Folk Festival, where he played electric instruments and provoked the ire of the audience and festival programmers.

“Bob and his music dominate the culture,” Chalamet said in a featurette for the film. He worked for years to accurately portray Dylan, perfecting his voice, body language and musicality. “It was important for me to sing and act on set because it was in keeping with the spirit of the film to do it live…Bob didn’t allow himself to be cornered, which is the most inspiring thing for me as a young artist,” he adds adding: “Many artists in American popular culture have had the courage to defy expectations – that moment began with Bob.”

Chalamet is an Oscar nominee for Best Actor, and the film appears to be a potential candidate for Best Picture. It was named one of the ten best films of the year by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. Music biopics have done well in the top category in the past: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Elvis” and “Maestro” received nominations in recent years. And Dylan himself is already an Oscar winner (Best Original Song for “Things Have Changed” from “Wonder Boys”), so we know he’s already received the Academy’s seal of approval. It certainly doesn’t hurt Chalamet’s case that he also has Dylan’s illness.
