Timothée Chalamet visits fans in Minneapolis before the Bob Dylan film screening

Timothée Chalamet appeared in Minneapolis on Thursday to promote the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.”

Chalamet plays Dylan in the film, which chronicles the legendary singer-songwriter’s rise to fame after moving to New York in 1961. The cinema release is scheduled for December 25th.

Fans suspected something might be up when Chalamet posted a maroon and gold “M” – the University of Minnesota’s distinctive logo – to his Instagram Story late Wednesday night.

U of M students report receiving direct invitations to a question-and-answer session with the actor in Minneapolis on Thursday, followed by a post-screening reception.

Marketing agency Allied Global Marketing confirmed to MPR News that Chalamet will indeed be attending a screening of “A Complete Unknown” at Main Cinema. He is scheduled to appear on the red carpet before a screening at 6:30 p.m. As-yet-unidentified local musicians and other VIPs are also expected to attend.

On Thursday around 2:37 p.m., Chalamet also posted a photo of the Varsity Theater on his Instagram Story with the text that simply read: “TONITE.” Soon after, fans began posting photos and videos of him on the University of Minnesota campus publish.

It’s a fitting start to the film. Bob Dylan completed a semester at the U of M before dropping out to become a musician. He began his career in the off-campus Dinkytown neighborhood, learning from quiet local legends like “Spider” John Koerner.

Chalamet was spotted in Dylan’s hometown of Hibbing, attended a high school there earlier this year and recently received Dylan’s recognition for his performance.

According to a Searchlight Pictures page, there are three more screenings of “A Complete Unknown” starring Chalamet coming up. Others are planned for Nashville, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
