Take a look at High Point University where you can see lots of sunshine. BUT NOTE HOW THE FOUNTAIN IS IN THE BREEZE. And yes, if you take a step out there, it is unusually cold in our area. And I wish I could say it would only last for a day. RIGHT? WE CAN TAKE IT. Yes, but we have really cold air that will continue for the next few days. In fact, this arctic air that is now present for the next 36 hours will be with us. THE COLDEST MORNING WILL LIKELY BE WEDNESDAY MORNING WHERE WE WILL BE CLOSE TO 20 DEGREES, IF NOT IN THE UPPER TWELVE. HIGHEST NEAR 20 FOR SEVERAL MORNINGS CLOSER TO 40. AND THESE FEEL LIKE TEMPERATURES WITH THE WIND THERE IN THE TEENS IN THE MORNING AND THEN FEEL LIKE 20S AND 30S IN THE AFTERNOON. This morning it was 25 degrees. OUR QUALITY WAS ONLY 41. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ARE 55 AND 35. NOW. THE MORNING DEPTH WILL STAY REALLY COLD. YOU CAN NOW SEE TEMPERATURES THAT ARE IN THE 20’S IN SPARTA AND GALAX UP IN CASWELL. IT’S 41 DEGREES, 34 IN GREENSBORO, 33 IN WINSTON-SALEM, and notice that we have a few flakes or a few swirls over the mountains. It snowed a bit last night. We are also looking forward to some more snow coming here. Nothing is really happening in the entire area at the moment, but that will likely change as there is some snow on the other side of the mountains. This is now a small Alberta Clipper system. Once they reach the Carolinas, they’re typically lacking quite a bit of moisture, meaning it’s difficult to get some of that moisture over the mountains and actually create measurable snow mass. It comes in bursts, so to speak. AND IF YOU GET AN OUTFLOW THAT IS STRONG ENOUGH AND HEAVY ENOUGH, YOU MAY GET A LITTLE LIGHT COATING ON THE GRASS. YOU SEE SOME OF THESE BRIGHT WHITE SNOW BRIDES SHOWING UP ACROSS TENNESSEE AND KENTUCKY. AGAIN IT HAS TO BE CROSSED OVER THE MOUNTAINS, AND OFTEN WHEN OUR PRECIPITATION DRIES UP IN THIS SCENARIO, WE ALSO HAVE DEW POINTS THAT ARE NOW IN THE INTERMEDIATE RANGE. So we’re really dry. We need to moisten this crack so that it reaches the ground. And that happens pretty quickly. BUT I SAY ALL THIS TO SAY IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU, SNOW LOVERS AND YOU WHO WANT TO SEE SOME FLAKES. I would say, though, you’ll have to stay up really late, because note that it’ll be about midnight before we start seeing any of these flakes are expected to find their way through the PIEDMONT TRIAD, AND THEN MOST OF THEM WILL BE AROUND 3 OR 4 CLOCK PASSED. I know you’d like to see a little bit on the grass, and I think in our mountains there’s at least a good chance we’ll see half of it INCH TO INCH OF SNOW. SOME OF THE HIGHER Elevations, MORE THAN THAT, IF WE GET MEASURABLE SNOW IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD, THE MOST LIKELY AREAS WITH THAT PARTICULAR ROAD WOULD BE OVER PARTS OF DAVIE DAVIDSON, MAYBE RANDOLPH ALAMANCE COUNTIES. AGAIN NOT IMPOSSIBLE, BUT NOT REALLY LIKELY. If we get anything out there, keep in mind there could be a few slippery spots on the roads tomorrow morning. TEMPERATURES IN THE HIGH TEENS AND LOW 20S. IT’S A COLD DAY TOMORROW, THE HIGH IS ONLY 41. SO WE’RE STILL ABOUT 10 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW OUR AVERAGE TEMPERATURES. We have this northwest wind so it feels like it’s in the 20s and 30s. SO ALL WINTER LAYERS ARE NEEDED IN THE FOOTMOUNTS WITH A HIGH 40 DEGREE. TOMORROW IN THE AFTERNOON. And in the mountains we have a high of 30 to 20 miles per hour. I just wanted to show you this because not only is there an opportunity in our communities in the southern Triad, but there may be some areas in North and South Carolina that rarely get snow, so there’s a few tonight Snowflakes from Charlotte to FAYETTEVILLE. Winter Weather Preparation Week Underway; Tips for preparing for winter weather

The first seven days of December are a week to prepare for winter weather. From December 1-7, state and local officials will join Gov. Roy Cooper to encourage North Carolinians to plan now, before potentially dangerous winter weather is upon us. Because North Carolina is so close to the Appalachian Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf Stream and the Gulf of Mexico, the state is expected to be affected by an El Nino snow pattern that will bring above-average precipitation across the state this winter brings. To prepare, here is a list of things you can do before winter weather: Have at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food, medications, and fresh batteries (for weather radios and flashlights) in your home. Use a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather radio or a weather alert app on your phone to monitor changing weather conditions. Dress warmly by wearing multiple layers of thin clothing instead of a single layer of thick clothing. When using heat sources, make sure you know how to operate the device safely. Properly vent kerosene heaters and keep electric generators outside and away from open windows or doors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Never burn charcoal indoors and have a fire extinguisher handy. Make sure your family knows how to use it. Do not leave pets outside for long periods of time. Make sure your pet is wearing a well-fitting collar and bring him indoors when temperatures drop below freezing. Move livestock and other animals to a protected area with food and water.
