PLANNING THE NEXT 24 HOURS: We have an ALERT DAY in the weather forecast for the possibility of light snow and ice accumulation across southern Wisconsin (a little more so in southwest Wisconsin). A winter weather advisory for the possibility of gathering is in effect for our entire area until midnight. The wintry mix has already begun in the form of snow showers. This will continue through the morning, with snow replaced by freezing rain and then real rain in the afternoon and evening. The highest ice accumulations are expected in Iowa, although a light layer of ice could extend into southwestern Wisconsin, particularly areas closer to the Mississippi River. Areas east of Madison may still see one or two slippery spots due to pockets of ice forming on the roadway, which is still below freezing, although mostly rain is expected east of Madison as temperatures reach into the Temperatures will reach the mid 30s. Any rainfall will end late Saturday evening.

It may rain on Monday, then snow on Tuesday evening, but beyond that it will stay dry for the rest of next week. Next week, high temperatures will start in the low 40s on Sunday and Monday, but will slowly cool down to 20 degrees by next weekend.
