“We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day so our employees can enjoy the holiday with their families.” A version of this sign is becoming increasingly common on the front door of many retailers nationwide. Are liquor stores open on Thanksgiving?

Many liquor stores — including Binny’s and BevMo — tend to keep the lights on for a limited time on Thanksgiving Day, but it depends on the location. If you live in Connecticut and run out of wine, you’re out of luck because alcohol sales aren’t allowed on Thanksgiving Day, and it’s not the only state that follows this rule. However, if you live in California, you should find an open liquor store on Thanksgiving Day, or at least no law prevents it. Be sure to do your research in advance or simply stock up on supplies in the days leading up to the holiday.
