Today’s weather forecast: Lake effect snow continues

FOX 17 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Craig’s prediction: WINTER STORM WARNINGS will be in effect for much of West Michigan through early Friday morning. CLICK HERE for more information about this event. More snow is likely to accumulate throughout the day, with the heaviest and most consistent snowfall occurring along/west of the US-131 corridor, where another 3 to 6 inches will fall in lake bands. In some cases quantities of up to 8 inches are possible. East of 131 will see significantly lower snowfall amounts today. Winds will also be gusty, but still persistent from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Wind chills will be in the single digits Please use caution on the roads for the latest weather forecasts!

TODAY: Lake-effect snow showers continue, particularly in locations along/west of US 131, where another 3 to 6 inches are likely in/below the defined lake bands. Only an inch or two will fall east of US 131. Highs will be in the upper 20s. Winds northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Gusts 35/40 mph.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with lake effect snow showers likely, primarily along/west of US 131. Additional accumulations possible overnight. Lows in the upper teens. Wind direction northwest/west 5 to 10 miles per hour.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with light snow showers or thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 20s. West-southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy to partly sunny and warmer. Highs in the mid 40s.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy and mild, showers likely. Highs will be in the mid/upper 40s.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy, with isolated rain/snow mixes. Highs in the low 40s.
