Christmas has come and gone. It’s always a little bittersweet. So much anticipation leading up to Christmas and then it comes and we open our presents and listen to the music and then it’s over. But we can still look forward to New Year’s Eve!

Yesterday I gave you a Wordle Wednesday puzzle and it was pretty difficult! Today I’ll give you the answer. Here was the puzzle:

Christmas puzzles

Santa Claus is standing in his workshop,

With presents piled high in the sky.

He calls for three wise elves,

To help with his care.

The first elf takes half of the pile,

Then three more gifts are added.

The second eleven takes half of the rest,

And adds the same as before.

The third elf does the same thing again,

Leaving Santa Claus with just one.

How many presents did Santa Claus have?

Before the elves began?

The answer is 50. There is a complicated mathematical way to solve this, but I’ll just explain the numbers. If the first elf takes half of the stack – 25 – and adds 3, you get 28. The second elf takes half of the remaining stack – 11 – and adds 3, you get 14. 14 + 28 = 42. The third elf does the same thing, we take half of 8 – 4 – and add 3. That’s 7. 42 + 7 = 49. One gift is left for Santa Claus, which is what we have left leaves 50.

And that’s all, people! I wish you a nice rest of 2024! Now let’s solve this Wordle. . . .

I was lucky today with my first guess. I have used FLARE several times in the past, but today it was better than ever and I was only left with 5 possible solutions. MAFIA was the best second guess I could have come up with – I would never have guessed the answer to #2 – leaving me with only one possible solution: AFFIX for the win. That’s a hard word!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get one point for guessing three and another point for beating the bot that took four tries today. 2 points for me!
