“Tom thought the holidays would be the best time to quietly propose,” a source said exclusively Us weekly shortly after news of the couple’s engagement broke on Monday, January 6. “She didn’t want anything excessive.”

A day before Us Zendaya, 28, confirmed the couple’s relationship milestone and sparked engagement rumors on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet by wearing a diamond ring on her left hand. According to the insider, “Zendaya tried to keep it a secret but was very excited to show off her ring. She didn’t think people would notice, but she didn’t care.”

The source further noted that they both felt the timing was right. “Tom wanted to propose because he feels like he’s at the right moment in his life and feels ready to settle down,” the insider said. “They have had many conversations over the years but there was never any pressure. Zendaya is giddy and excited. She knew it could come, but never applied any pressure.”

Zendaya and Tom Holland have kept their romance relatively private, but fans know that the two have a long history. Holland, 28, previously shared during a December 2024 episode of The Dish from Waitrose podcast that he was spending the holidays with Zendaya’s family in the US. “Where we will be is a secret. … I know where we’re going (but the fans don’t know),” he said without revealing his marriage plans.
