Tornado report for the Houston area: Where tornadoes were spotted on Saturday, December 28th

Tornadoes hit the Houston area for the second time in three days. The storms on Saturday caused extensive damage and one fatality.

HOUSTON – Severe storms swept through Southeast Texas with tornadic activity in the Houston area on Saturday, the second day in the last three days. Saturday’s storms caused extensive damage and resulted in at least one death and several injuries.

A total of nine tornadoes were reported. The National Weather Service will send survey teams to the reporting locations to confirm the tornadoes and determine how strong they were.

After the storms passed, meteorologist Pat Cavlin examined the storms and reported tornadoes in detail, location by location. Below you will find a list of where there were reports and the result.

Brookshire to Katy:

  • Damage to a mobile home park and brick buildings
  • Roof damage to houses
  • A car overturned
  • No injuries were reported

From there the storm went to Cypress and then to The Woodlands and Spring:

  • A tornado was spotted near the intersection of Spring Cypress Rd and Highway 290 in Cypress. No damage was reported.

The storm then produced a reported tornado from Porter Heights to Splendora (eastern Montgomery County and into Liberty County):

  • Significant area damage
  • Mobile homes destroyed
  • Brick houses suffered severe roof damage
  • A fire station was damaged
  • Rubble scattered widely

Afterwards, a tornado reportedly developed from Alvin to Liverpool (in the Hillcrest district):

From there this storm went from Dickinson to Bacliff:

  • Several homes were severely damaged by a tornado in and around Dickinson.
  • Damage to the roof of a house in Bacliff

The tornado then moved over Galveston and Trinity Bay

  • Cavlin said it was unusual for the tornado to maintain strength over water

A tornado made landfall in Chambers County (between Anahuac and Smith Point):

  • A car was blown over by a tornado near Smith Point, causing possible injuries.
  • Several power lines along Highway 124 were downed by a tornado, causing closures in both directions north of High Island.

Additional damage was reported as it moved from the Houston area into Jefferson County
