Adam Sandler received thunderous applause from the “Saturday Night Live” audience as he dove into a gory hospital sketch on the Dec. 14 episode.

In the sketch, Emil Wakim, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang and presenter Chris Rock play surgeons, all freshly scrubbed and celebrating a successful operation. But a less-than-responsible surgeon, played by Sarah Sherman, admits that she messed up her pre-op paperwork and the patient had his gallbladder removed instead of his appendix.

While the medical team is shocked, Rock’s OR manager asks the team not to be too hard on her as the previously assured patient sits up on the bed and reveals Sandler. His appearance causes fake blood to squirt all over the cast and he urges Rock to open his mouth to stop the spraying out. Rock does so and is drenched in blood everywhere, including his mouth, causing the players and audience to laugh.

At one point, Sandler breaks the fourth wall further with lead actor Wakim, saying that while his family doesn’t play as big of a role in the sketch, they’ll be proud that he got a showcase.

Sandler also stuck around during the show’s goodnights, where he and Rock wore fresh clothes free of fake blood.

Sandler and Rock have been working together for a long time. They overlapped while working on “Saturday Night Live” in the ’90s and then starred in several films together, including 2005’s “The Longest Yard,” 2010’s “Grown-Ups” and “The Week.” Of” from 2018.”

Sandler has also worked with Sherman, as both had roles in the 2023 film “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” and also opened for him on tour.
