That Tottenham performance was a microcosm of life under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham found themselves 1-0 behind in their 15th Premier League home game of 2024, the largest deficit by a team in a single calendar year in the competition, after a stunning lack of defensive concentration.

Hwang collected a free kick from Rayan Ait-Nouri across the 18-yard penalty area and was given the freedom to choose his spot at Tottenham Stadium.

But spells of enchanting football followed as Postecoglou’s preferred high-energy attacking approach brought the Spurs fans out of their seats.

In particular, the way Kulusevski and Johnson worked together to give Tottenham the lead was pure silk.

Likewise, the apparent lack of game management towards the end of the competition, when three points were up for grabs, was baffling and allowed Wolves to snag a point.

Spurs’ performance even turned comical at times. Bentancur and Solanke both ended up on the turf after colliding while trying to shoot at goal at the same time.

As 2024 draws to a close, Postecoglou reflects in its program notes on the progress made over the last 12 months.

However, Spurs are guaranteed to be below seventh place in the league at the turn of the year for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

What 2025 has in store for Postecoglou and Tottenham is unclear.
