Tourists were redirected to the wrong Kollur temple by Google Maps, leading to frustration

Hundreds tourists Travelers heading to the famous Kollur Mookambika Temple were mistakenly directed to Nandalike, a remote village several kilometers away, causing confusion and considerable inconvenience. For the past three months, travelers using Google Maps have been directed to a small temple in Nandalike that is incorrectly listed as Kollur Mookambika Temple.

This problem mostly affects devotees from far-flung places like Hyderabad, Tirupati, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kerala and other parts of Karnataka and India. When they arrive in Nandalike, they quickly realize the mistake and are forced to reverse their journey and travel hundreds of kilometers to reach the actual temple.

The confusion arises due to a small temple in Nandalike dedicated to Goddess Mookambika which is incorrectly referred to as Kollur Mookambika Temple on Google Maps. Tourists, unaware of the error, follow the instructions and suddenly find themselves way off course.

Chandan, a tourist from Hyderabad, shared his frustration and said, “We traveled from Hyderabad to Udupi relying on Google Maps and then ended up in Nandalike.” It is particularly problematic when it happens late at night, which adds to our inconvenience.”

Residents report that vehicles are directed to Nandalike daily, many of which arrive at night, forcing them to return to Kundapur before continuing their journey to Kollur. Despite numerous complaints, Google has not yet corrected the entry.

Supporters have called on Google to fix the bug to ease travelers’ difficulties. They also advised tourists to double-check their card entries to avoid unnecessary detours.
