Track winter weather impacts for Friday evening and Saturday morning

Light freezing rain will continue at times overnight as warmer air and moisture continue to move in from the south. Eventually, temperatures will rise above freezing from south to north, turning freezing rain south of I-80 into regular cold rain. However, it could take until around 3 to 6 a.m. for Omaha to break above freezing. Neighborhoods north of I-80 may not exceed freezing until after Saturday morning.

There will be mostly scattered rain in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa through Saturday morning, but there could still be pockets of freezing rain north of Omaha. By midday Saturday, temperatures will be at or above freezing in most cities, and there could be a few more occasional showers in the afternoon, keeping it mostly cloudy. Highs will be in the upper 30s.

Widespread power outages are not expected due to the ice, but be sure to charge your phones and tablets in case some areas of the city lose power.

Sunday will be windy and warmer with temperatures around 40 degrees and a mix of sun and clouds.

Monday will remain windy, but we’ll keep temperatures slightly above average, in the mid 40s.

It starts to get cooler again on Tuesday, with low 40s and some sunshine.

On Wednesday we’ll drop into the low 30s with a little more wind.
