Travis Hunter teases celebrity guest at Heisman Trophy ceremony

Travis Hunter might have another trick up his sleeve at the end of an unprecedented season.

The favorite to win the Heisman Trophy based on his dual fame as a receiver and cornerback for Colorado was asked on “SportsCenter” Saturday morning to name the biggest celebrity he’s heard of to congratulate him.

“That’s what you’re going to see tonight,” Hunter said, teasing the 8 p.m. ceremony in New York. “It’s actually coming up, so you’ll see it.”

Let the guessing game begin.

Hunter already has a famous athlete on his side, as Colorado head coach Deion Sanders – a Pro Football Hall of Famer – considers him like another son.

Hunter’s best friend and quarterback in Colorado is Deion’s real son, Shedeur Sanders.

Hunter and the younger Sanders, along with Miami quarterback and Heisman finalist Cam Ward, are competing for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Which prospect whose name is mentioned first could ultimately depend on whether the team holding that pick is hungry for a franchise quarterback (like the Giants and Raiders) or not (like the Jaguars and Patriots).

There has been a lot of speculation that Deion Sanders could follow Colorado’s two stars to the NFL as head coach.

There are openings on the Jets, Bears and Saints, and many more could soon open up, including the popular Cowboys Giants and Sanders.

But Hunter said not so quickly when Deion left Colorado.

“I gained a lot of insight,” Hunter said. “He’s not going anywhere.”

Hunter’s awards season has already been historically fruitful.

He won the Bednarik Award as the best defensive player in college football and the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football.

Giants star receiver Malik Nabers – who played catch with the younger Sanders on the streets of New York on Friday night – is impressed with Hunter’s two-way ability and thinks he should win the Heisman and then try to play both positions remain the NFL.
