The Detroit Lions decided that revenge and momentum were more important than calm in Week 17. ESPN analyst Troy Aikman asked Monday night whether this was the right move for a Lions team that still has everything to offer.

When the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the Lions missed any opportunity to clinch the NFC North, first place and a first-round bye before playing the Vikings in Week 18.

That means, despite a 13-2 start to the season, nothing is guaranteed for the Lions other than at least a playoff spot.

It also meant that the Lions’ game against the 6-9 San Francisco 49ers became meaningless because no matter what happened, it would all come down to Week 18.
