Truck hits bridge overpass, shutting down part of I-95 | The latest from WDEL News

A portion of one of the busiest roads along the East Coast was closed for several hours on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Delaware Department of Transportation officials told WDEL News and TrafficWatch that a dump truck with its bed raised was traveling southbound on I-95 when it hit the route overpass around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024 141 northbound.

The upright dump body crashed into a large highway sign in front of the overpass and tore out part of the sign, but the truck continued to drive unhindered.

The collision caused damage to the overpass, including some broken bolts. An inspection of the overpass revealed no structural damage to the girders and northbound Route 141 reopened around 8:30 a.m

A second dump truck swerved to avoid hitting the separated dump truck, crashed through three sets of guardrails and ultimately left the road.

Several other vehicles were also damaged by debris from the wreck.

No serious injuries were reported.

Southbound I-95 was closed for about four hours

I-295 southbound remains closed.
