President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday that he will nominate a Bay Area lawyer to a position at the U.S. Justice Department as assistant attorney general for civil rights.

“I am extremely honored to be nominated by President Trump to support our nation’s civil rights agenda. It has been my dream to serve our great country and I am thrilled to be part of an incredible legal team led by @. “Pam Bondi. I can’t wait to get to work,” Harmeet Dhillon said on X.

“Dhillon is based in San Francisco and practices in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law, First Amendment rights and election law matters,” her professional bio states.

She founded her own law firm in 2006, is a member of the Republican National Committee and previously held the position of vice chair of the California Republican Party.

In 2017 Dhillon represented the Berkeley College Republicans in a lawsuit after the university initially canceled an event where Ann Coulter was scheduled to speak. She also filed a federal lawsuit v. California and the DMV in 2019, accusing the agency of failing to verify citizenship during voter registration.
