Trump could replace Hegseth as defense secretary due to allegations by DeSantis

According to the Wall Street Journal, President-elect Donald Trump is considering replacing Pete Hegseth with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Pete Hegseth is the current candidate for Secretary of Defense and currently co-hosts Fox & Friends Weekend.

There are growing concerns about the allegations against the former Fox News host’s personal life, according to people familiar with the situation.

DeSantis is a well-known conservative and was one of the GOP’s main rivals for the presidency in 2024.

When Trump nominated Hegseth, he said: “Pete has spent his entire life as a warrior for the troops and for the country. Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First. With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on guard – our military will be great again and America will never back down.”

The president-elect’s Cabinet members, including Hegseth, have spent time on Capitol Hill seeking support from lawmakers. Despite new reports over the weekend detailing allegations of sexual assault, financial mismanagement, which he denies, and reports of alcohol abuse, Republican senators are largely sticking with him.

“Pete is the guy he’s going to work with. He has a great work ethic. He’s very, very smart,” said Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.

Trump announced all 15 of his Cabinet members ahead of Inauguration Day.
