Trump hosts first DC rally since January 6th insurrection

Later this month, President-elect Donald Trump will hold a rally in Washington, DC, his first there since the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol nearly four years ago.

His “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of January 19, a day before he is scheduled to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

“Join President Trump at Capital One Arena for a victory rally you will never forget!” a registration page for the event reads.

The event could be an indication that Trump plans to continue holding rallies throughout his presidency, even if he is not eligible for another term in the White House.

The arena has a capacity of around 20,000 people.

This is the first time Trump has held a rally in the nation’s capital since January 6, 2021, when he falsely insisted to a crowd of his supporters that he had defeated President Joe Biden in the election and instructed them to in the USA march to Capitol. Once there, hundreds of his supporters stormed the building and attacked police officers in an attempt to use force against lawmakers and prevent the certification of electoral votes.

Trump visited Capitol Hill for the first time since the riots in June 2021, when he met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans. Matt Gaetz, then a congressman from Florida and a key Trump ally, described it at the time as “a pep rally for President Trump.”

Jan. 19 will also be the first time Trump will lead a rally since declaring his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.

It’s not clear who, if anyone, will be on stage with him at the event.
