ATLANTA – President-elect Donald Trump has named NFL and Georgia football legend Herschel Walker as U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.

“A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL great, Herschel was a tireless advocate for youth sports. During my first term, he served as co-chair of the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. Herschel has traveled to over 400 military bases around the world to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. “He represented the United States at the 1992 Winter Olympics as a member of the U.S. bobsled team,” Trump said in a statement.

Walker is a longtime Trump ally.

The president-elect was a key driver behind Walker’s failed attempt to unseat Rev. Raphael Warnock in the U.S. Senate in 2022.

Warnock won by a narrow margin in a runoff.

“I’m not going to apologize because we put up a tough fight,” Walker said at the time. “One of the things I want to say to all of you is to never stop dreaming. I want you to continue to believe in America and in our elected officials and in our Constitution.”

The election campaign was not without scandal. Because Walker ran as a conservative, he was against abortion.

During the campaign two women came out and said Walker paid for them to have one.

Walker denied these allegations.
