Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is naming podcaster and former PayPal chief operating officer David Sacks as the White House’s artificial intelligence and crypto czar, continuing his pattern of rewarding major donors with political power.

Sacks, a venture capitalist and Silicon Valley insider, hosted major donors at his San Francisco mansion in June to support the Trump campaign. Tickets cost up to $300,000 per person. The event reportedly raised more than $12 million.

As host of the popular podcast All-In, Sacks shares the mic with Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis and David Friedberg in weekly episodes that focus on “all things business, tech, politics, social issues and poker.”

Trump obviously followed the advice. And now he has welcomed Sacks to the federal government to provide guidance and leadership on strengthening the crypto industry and artificial intelligence, “two areas that are critical to the future of American competitiveness,” according to Trump’s post.

In addition to this new advisory position, Trump has named Sacks head of his Science and Technology Advisory Council, an independent panel of experts that has historically been tasked with assisting presidents with key decisions and developing evidence-based policy recommendations.

The committee is currently co-chaired by three respected scientists, including Dr. Arati Prabhakar, an engineer and applied physicist and former director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Sacks will take on a number of specific priorities, according to Trump’s post, which did not elaborate on whether science will play a role.

“He will protect free speech online and keep us away from the bias and censorship of Big Tech,” Trump continued. “He will work on a legal framework so that the crypto industry gets the clarity it demands and can thrive in the US.”

The Sacks announcement was among a series of posts shared Thursday evening as Trump named more of his allies in the new administration.

David Perdue, a former senator and longtime MAGA supporter who faced federal scrutiny over his stock trading while in office, has been named ambassador to China – a key diplomatic role as Trump stokes trade tensions.

Rodney S. Scott, the former U.S. Border Patrol chief and border wall advocate, was elected U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner. Caleb Vitello, currently deputy director of the Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs, has been selected as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Former border guard Brandon Judd has been named ambassador to Chile. Ice Special Agent Tony Salisbury was chosen as deputy homeland security advisor.
