Trump prosecutor Fani Willis dealt a major blow after the jury acquitted two defendants in the sprawling YSL trial

Donald Trump’s prosecutor Fani Willis was dealt a major blow on Tuesday after her prosecution of the YSL gang – the longest-running trial in Georgia – ended with the acquittal of the final two defendants in the case.

A Fulton County jury found Deamonte Kendrick — who raps under the name Yak Gotti — not guilty on all charges Tuesday morning and also acquitted Shannon Stillwell of all charges except one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a report of the WSB. TV.

Stillwell and Kendrick were accused of murdering rival gang member Donovan Thomas Jr., also known as “Big Nut,” during a drive-by shootout.

In October, co-defendant and Grammy winner Young Thug made a surprise plea deal in the case, accusing him of being the leader of the YSL (Young Slime Life) gang.

Georgia’s longest-ever criminal trial has made headlines because of clashes between prosecutors and judges. AP

The trial began in 2022 against 28 defendants, many of whom have since pleaded guilty in court and accused members of the gang linked to the Bloods of committing various crimes, including murder, armed robbery, drug trafficking, car theft and violence.

The trial is the longest-running in Peach State history and was initiated by District Attorney Willis. Jury selection took 10 months and testimony began in November 2023.

Willis came under fire last year for her admitted affair with Nathan Wade, whom she hired to lead the prosecution against Trump.

Willis is also the last holdout in the four criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump. Two federal cases against Trump have now been dropped by special counsel Jack Smith and Trump’s sentencing in the hush money case in Manhattan has been postponed indefinitely by a judge.
