Trump shares amusing video in which Greenlanders urge him to “buy us” from Denmark.

President-elect Trump doubled down on his calls for the US to take possession of Greenland in an amusing social media post on Monday.

The move comes as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., prepares to travel to Greenland on Tuesday. The trip will be conducted privately and he is not expected to meet with government officials.

In a Truth Social post, President-elect Trump said he had “heard that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA.’ The Republican attached a video that purportedly shows a Greenlander calling on the U.S. to buy his land.

“If you could say something to Trump, what would it be?” In the video, a woman can be heard asking the man.

“Buy us. “Buy Greenland,” replied the man wearing a MAGA hat.

The Greenlander then added that he “loves the Americans” and wants to be free from the Danish government.

“We no longer want to be colonized by the Danish government,” he said. “We are cheated every year with our minerals from Greenland. We are the richest country in the world. And we can’t use it. Denmark takes advantage of us too often.”

In his message, Trump confirmed that he plans to visit Greenland in the near future and that his son Donald Trump Jr. will be in the country soon. The president-elect said he plans to visit some of the island’s “most wonderful areas and sights.”

“Greenland is an incredible place and its people will benefit tremendously if and when it becomes part of our nation,” Trump wrote on Monday. “We will protect and cherish it from a very malevolent outside world. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump’s latest post comes two weeks after he first made headlines when he expressed support for U.S. ownership of Greenland.

“For the purposes of national security and freedom around the world, the United States of America believes that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” the president-elect’s Truth Social post reads.

In response, Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede expressed interest in his country’s independence from Denmark.

“The upcoming new legislative period must, together with the citizens, take these new steps based on the foundations already laid,” said Egede. “It is time for us to take a step ourselves and shape our future, including in terms of who we will work closely with and who our trading partners will be.”

Trump has been considering buying Greenland for several years. In 2019, he floated the idea of buying Greenland, calling it “a big real estate deal.”

“A lot can be done. “It hurts Denmark a lot because it loses them almost $700 million every year,” Trump said at the time. “So they bear it at great loss, and strategically for the United States it would be nice. And we are a great ally of Denmark and we help Denmark and we protect Denmark.”

During a “Fox News Sunday” interview about Trump’s comments, then-White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed that the president’s opinion was genuine.

“Greenland is a strategically important place up there and there are a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow explained at the time.

“I don’t want to predict any outcome. I’m just saying that the president who knows a thing or two about buying real estate might want to take a look.”
