Two injured after Allen County sheriff’s officer shoots suspect at church event | News

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – Two people are injured after someone pointed a gun at a New Haven police officer and an Allen County sheriff’s officer fired shots at a church Saturday night.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that one of its officers fired his weapon, but could not clarify whether that officer shot anyone.

Two people were hospitalized, with the sheriff’s department listing them as being in “fair to serious condition.”

The Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from Central Ministries at 5801 Schwartz Road near the Fort Wayne-New Haven border at 9:14 p.m

A New Haven police officer told Dispatch that a suspect pointed a gun at him.

Additional officers arrived at the large outdoor event that took place in the church.

The Sheriff’s Department says one of its officers fired his weapon during the ensuing investigation.

The department’s PIO confirmed that the suspect who pointed the gun at the New Haven officer is in custody.

Officials did not provide any information about how the two people being treated at the hospital were injured.

Indiana State Police are investigating the shooting in accordance with standard Sheriff’s Department policy.
