Two people charged with shoplifting at multiple malls, posted on OR – First State Update

Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Rashunda Smullen and 28-year-old Jerlysa Williams, both of Wilmington, Delaware, for multiple shoplifting incidents that occurred at various stores at Christiana Mall on Monday afternoon.

Officials said that on December 16, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shoplifting at Lens Crafters at 750 Christiana Mall in Newark. Upon arrival, officers learned that two female suspects placed several pairs of glasses in their purses and left the store with the unpaid items, officers said Thursday. Officers searched the mall for the suspects, located them at a nearby store and were arrested without incident.

Officials said a subsequent search of their purses uncovered more than $5,000 worth of stolen eyeglasses as well as other unpaid merchandise from other stores in the mall.

Further investigation revealed that Smullen and Williams were the suspects responsible for a shoplifting incident at the Apple Store, police said. Additionally, Williams was identified as the suspect responsible for the shoplifting at Nordstrom, Cotton On Kids added, police.

Rashunda Smullen was charged with Shoplifting over $1,500 (a felony), 2nd Degree Conspiracy (a felony), and Shoplifting under $1,500. She was charged by Justice of the Peace 2 and released on her own recognizance.

Jerlysa Williams was charged with 2nd degree conspiracy (a felony) and four counts of shoplifting under $1,500. She was also charged by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on her own recognizance.
