Tyson Fury drops a cryptic nine-word reference to retirement after crushing defeat to Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury has hinted he may retire from boxing following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening.

The 36-year-old lost by unanimous decision despite performing significantly better than the first showdown between the two men in May.

Neither Fury nor Usyk were able to secure a knockout on Saturday, meaning the two fought an impressive 24 rounds over the two fights.

Still, it was the Ukrainian who scored higher with the judges, much to Fury’s dismay.

The Briton was visibly angry when the result was read out and decided to leave the ring without taking part in any post-fight interviews.

And when asked about his future in the post-showdown press conference, Fury was cautious about his future.

“Maybe you’ll see me fight again, maybe you won’t,” the veteran said.

Fury had an undefeated record in professional boxing at the start of the year.

But despite being taller and heavier than Usyk, he was unable to defeat his 37-year-old opponent.

In the past it looked like Fury had quit boxing, but then he defied expectations and returned and performed in the sport.

The discussion about a fight with Anthony Joshua will undoubtedly continue. After all, the two men have been dying to face each other for years.

However, neither player can have the appeal they once had – Joshua’s own resume includes defeats to the likes of Usyk, Andy Ruiz Jr. and Daniel Dubois.

Fury also said the judges gave Usyk the win as a “Christmas present.”

He continued: “The judges gave him a Christmas present.

“I feel like I won both fights. I know I had to knock him out, but boxing and stuff like that happen. I have no doubt that I won this fight.”

“Frank (Warren) had me three or four laps ahead and a lot of people had me at least two laps ahead.”

“I’ve boxed my whole life, but I always feel like I’ve come under a little bit of pressure – not just a little, but a lot.”

As for Usyk, the Ukrainian was delighted to emerge victorious.

He was immediately confronted by Dubois and the Brit said he wanted “revenge”.
