UConn and Jim Mora agree to a contract extension through 2028

UConn announced a two-year contract extension for head coach Jim Mora on Saturday as the team took the field for the Fenway Bowl against North Carolina.

Mora’s contract extension runs through 2028 and will pay him $10 million over the remaining four years, with the possibility of earning more through incentives.

The 63-year-old coach is scheduled to make $1.7 million next season, $1.9 million in 2026 and $2.3 and $2.4 million in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

“Three years ago, I tasked Jim Mora with the challenge of returning our football team to success, and through his experience, energy and leadership, he has accomplished just that,” UConn athletic director David Benedict said in a statement. “He took our program to the post-season bowl game twice and just led our team to one of the best seasons in UConn football history, building momentum to move this program forward. I look forward to him leading our football team for years to come.”

“I would like to thank David Benedict, Radenka Maric and the University of Connecticut leadership for their trust in me and their commitment to our football program,” Mora said. “When I got here I talked about where we wanted to take this program and we’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have a lot of work to do. The commitment and dedication of the university and the athletic department make me excited about the future of our football team.”

Mora had one of the most successful seasons in UConn football history, leading the team to an 8-4 record and a Fenway Bowl appearance. It’s the Huskies’ second bowl appearance in three years.

UConn’s eight wins are the most for the program since 2010, and the Huskies also had their first winning season since that year. A win Saturday would give UConn nine wins for the third time in program history, with the last two such seasons coming in 2003 and 2007.

Both UConn’s offense and defense made great strides in 2024 under Coach Mora and his staff. The Husky offensive attack scored 388 points (32.3 ppg) this season, the most points since the 2009 season and the fifth-most in program history. The ground game produced 2,380 yards, the fifth-highest total in program history, while ranking 23rd in the NCAA in rushing yards per game (198.3). On defense, UConn allowed 286 points (23.8 ppg), the fewest points given up since the 2015 season.

Robbins on his way to Tulsa

According to a report from CBS Sports, UConn quarterbacks coach Brad Robbins is heading to Tulsa as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Robbins was part of a coaching staff that helped the offense to its most productive attack since the 2009 season and the fifth-highest in program history (32.3 points per game). Robbins worked at FCS Tennessee Tech and Division II North Greenville before joining Jim Mora’s staff in the spring of 2023.
