UConn hosts Baylor for a top-25 battle showdown

STORRS – The No. 25 UConn men’s basketball team (5-3) faces a non-conference showdown on Wednesday night when it takes on No. 15 Baylor (5-2) in the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle at Gampel Pavilion. The competition ends at 6:30 p.m. on FS1 with Brandon Gaudin and Bill Raftery.

Fans are encouraged to arrive EARLY and to wear WHITE.

The Huskies and Bears have met only once in the history of the two programs, with the meeting representing a duel between two of the last three programs to win a national title. UConn is looking to even its battle record and is currently 1-2 after a setback at Kansas last year. Baylor will be the first top-25 program Gampel visits outside of the league since No. 15 Florida in 2019, and the match is the first ranked contest in Storrs since No. 7 UConn hosted No. 24 Texas in 2014.

UConn is 5-0 at home this season and has a 29-1 record in its last 30 games at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies boast an offensive ranking in the top 10 in nearly every major statistical category and offensive metric and lead the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (50.7), assists per game (20.9), and the assist/turnover ratio (2.03).

Baylor enters Wednesday’s contest with an overall record of 5-2, ranking No. 15 in the AP poll and in the top 25 in Kenpom and Torvik. Big man Norchad Omier, who the Huskies faced in the 2023 Final Four with Miami, leads Baylor with 15.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 59.5 percent from the floor. Jeremy Roach is averaging a team-high 13.3 points and 4.7 assists per game, while Jayden Nunn is adding 12.9 per contest and shooting 48.9 percent from 3-point range.

After Wednesday’s big matchup, UConn faces another tough test when it travels to Austin to face Texas on Dec. 8.
