United Airlines is expanding its service and offering new nonstop connections to two major cities

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – United Airlines will offer more flights and new nonstop service to two major U.S. cities starting this summer.

The airline is expanding its service to Chicago with daily flights between Wilmington International Airport (ILM) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). New nonstop service to Denver International Airport (DEN) will be offered on Saturdays during the summer.

United originally offered weekend flights from ILM to ORD last summer, but decided to increase service from twice weekly to daily due to high passenger demand.

In an announcement, ILM said there had never been nonstop flights from Wilmington to Denver on any airline before.

“Denver was a top underserved market for Wilmington. We are excited to have United begin service on Saturdays, connecting our two cities. United is expanding its presence in Wilmington with nonstop flights to Newark, Chicago and Denver, and we thank them for choosing our market for this growth,” said Jeff Bourk, ILM Airport Director.

With these additions, United now serves three of its mainland hubs from Wilmington.

“United is proud to offer Wilmington residents and travelers in transit greater travel flexibility,” said Mark Weithofer, managing director, domestic planning, United Airlines. “Chicago and Denver are not only fantastic cities to visit, they are also home to our two largest hubs and help make travel to the most popular destinations possible.”
