UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed outside the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday.

The shooting occurred around 6:45 a.m. in Midtown, just hours before New Yorkers gathered in the neighborhood for the annual Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center.

Thompson, 50, was fatally shot in the chest by a masked man who then fled down 6th Avenue and is wanted by police, sources told the New York Post.

The CEO was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Thompson, who was named CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021 and reportedly earned $10 million a year, was scheduled to speak at an investor meeting at the Hilton Hotel later in the day.
