Universal Studios Hollywood closed due to wind and fire

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will remain closed Wednesday due to fire and wind in Los Angeles, Universal said in a statement. The park, located in the San Fernando Valley away from most of the devastation, said it expects to reopen Thursday but will continue to monitor the situation as devastating fires still burn.

The strongest Santa Ana winds in over a decade, which caused wildfires and chaos on the west side of the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles on Tuesday, worsened overnight, burning 2,921 acres at 0% containment Wednesday morning.

The Getty Villa Museum, Palisades High School and Bel Air Beach Club were among the locations hit by the raging flames, which firefighters struggled to control despite howling winds. The grounds of the Getty were burned, although the priceless antiquities in the villa were reported safe. Meanwhile, Palisades High School caught fire and appeared to be in a dilapidated state in videos shared online.

In Hollywood, many industry events have been canceled due to the fires and weather. Premieres for “Unstoppable,” “Better Man” and “The Pitt” were all canceled and the SAG Awards decided to cancel its in-person nominations. President Joe Biden even postponed a speech Tuesday in Joshua Tree because of the wind.
