BOCA RATON, Fla. – UAB women’s basketball (11-6, 2-3 AAC) earned a 73-61 win on the road at Florida Atlantic (9-8, 1-3 AAC). The Blazers had five players score in double figures Jade Weathersby recorded a double-double.

Travel Armstead led UAB with 14 points and collected seven rebounds and four assists. Maddie Walsh scored 13 points while Weathersby recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Tracey Bershers scored 12 points and added six assists and five rebounds. Eleecia Carter came away with 11 points in the afternoon.

Florida Atlantic was the first to score, but UAB was able to regain the lead 4-3. The Blazers would hold the lead the rest of the game, except for FAU tying twice in the first game. Weathersby hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left in the quarter, giving UAB a 21-14 lead after the first.

In the second period, the Green and Gold continued to extend their lead and even led by 14. At the 4:03 mark, the Blazers went on a 10-2 run and had a 14-point lead at 39:25 with 2:04 to play left to play with. With six seconds left, Carter hit a three-pointer to make the score 42-30 before halftime. Carter led UAB with eight points in the second period, while six points in the quarter came from Bershers. In the first half, the Blazers shot 46 percent and held the Owls to 35 percent.

At the start of the third period, Florida Atlantic went on a 9-0 run to get within 44-43 of UAB. Weathersby made a 3-pointer to stop the run and start an 8-0 run for the Green and Gold that made the score 52-43 at the 3:09 mark. The Blazers continued to score the rest of the period and had a nine-point lead at 60-51 heading into the final ten minutes.

Genevive Wedemeyer Opened the fourth game with a three-pointer, but the Owls went on a 9-2 run to make the score 65-60 with 4:55 to play. Florida Atlantic would only score one more point on a free throw the rest of the frame. UAB’s offense shot 40 percent in the quarter, while the Blazers’ defense held FAU to just 25 percent.

The Blazers shot 43 percent while the Owls shot 35 percent for the contest. The Green and Gold scored 42 bench points, 28 team points and 14 points off turnovers.

UAB travels to Tampa, Florida to face South Florida on Tuesday, January 14th. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+.
