UNLV DB, former UNC, Texas A&M transfer Tony Grimes enters the NCAA transfer portal

UNLV Start of defense Tony Grimes has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Grimes started all 12 games for the Rebels this season.

Grimes previously starred in North Carolina And Texas A&M. He originally signed with the Tar Heels as a five-star recruit in the 2020 class, according to On3 Industry Rankings.

Tony Grimes appeared in all 12 games and made four starts as a true freshman at North Carolina in 2020. He finished the year with 14 tackles, 4 pass breakups, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.

During the 2021 season, Grimes started all 13 games for North Carolina. He recorded 47 tackles, two tackles for loss and nine pass breakups.

In 2022, Tony Grimes started eleven games for the Tar Heels. He finished that year with 36 tackles, seven pass breakups and one forced fumble. Grimes then transferred to Texas A&M prior to the 2023 season. However, he missed the entire season due to injury.

Grimes then transferred to UNLV before last season. He finished the year with 20 tackles and six pass breakups. Now Grimes is on the move again.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up and how the former five-star recruit ends his career.

Utah RB transfer Jaylon Glover commits to UNLV

While UNLV is losing Tony Grimes to the transfer portal, the Rebels added a transfer portal running back on Monday.

Former Utah run back Jaylon Glover has committed to it UNLV On3 learned from the NCAA transfer portal.

Glover announced his plan to enter the portal in November while the regular season was still underway. He saw a reduced role in 2024 after becoming a steady presence in the Utes’ backfield. Before moving to the portal, he appeared in three games last season and scored twelve runs.

He is the first transfer portal signing for new head coach Dan Mullen. Glover told On3 recruiting director Chad Simmons that Mullen contacted Glover “as soon as he got the job.”

Mullen made sure Glover was one of, if not the first, recruits to check out everything UNLV had to offer in Vegas. Glover believes the program is “perfectly suited for me to dominate this league.” He told Simmons, “Who doesn’t want to play every home game at Allegiant Stadium?”
