UPDATE: The man suspected of fatally shooting three people in Mahomet was “known” to one of the victims, Mahomet Police Chief Mike Metzler said.

“According to the information we have, one of the victims was targeted,” Metzler said. “This was not a random incident.”

Metzler said he was unwilling to release the perpetrator’s name until the Illinois State Police, which took over this case, continue their investigation.

After the shooting in Mahomet, the man apparently immediately drove north to Berwyn, where he was killed in a shootout with police.
