The best World Cup finals to watch

Mercedes Moné vs. Kris Statlander

The TBS Championship match between Mercedes Moné and Kris Statlander is one of two new editions of last month’s Full Gear pay-per-view series and has a good chance of stealing the show at Worlds End.

It’s fair to argue that Mercedes and Statlander delivered not only the best match at Full Gear, but perhaps the best women’s match in AEW history.

While Moné’s character and promotional work have been maligned by some since joining AEW, there is no denying the fact that she is still one of the best in-ring workers in the world from bell to bell.

Statlander is also starting to enter this conversation and she proved to be an ideal complement for Mercedes in the last game.

While the CEO emerged victorious in their first meeting, Statlander could potentially become a two-time TBS Champion by the end of Worlds End, especially if there are plans for Moné to move up to the AEW Women’s World Championship in the near future.

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher

If Mercedes vs. Statlander wasn’t the match of the night at Full Gear, then that difference belonged to Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher.

The former friends have worked together and against each other many times over the years, so it was no surprise that their chemistry was off last month.

Fletcher cost Ospreay the International Championship in a three-way match against Konosuke Takeshita and Ricochet at WrestleDream in October, and they have been at odds ever since.

Although Fletcher struck the first blow by defeating Ospreay at Full Gear, Ospreay can get revenge by winning an even bigger match in the form of the Continental Classic semifinals.

Whoever wins this fast-paced, hard-hitting affair will advance to the tournament finals, where they will face either Kazuchika Okada or Ricochet for the continental championship.

After well over a year of build-up, MJF and Adam Cole will finally settle their differences in the ring at Worlds End.

At last year’s Worlds End event, Cole revealed himself to be MJF’s tormentor after MJF lost the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe. However, AEW was unable to capitalize on this huge plot development.

Cole was injured at the time and MJF then took several months off. When MJF returned, Cole was still injured, so their feud had to be put on hold.

AEW was finally able to return to MJF versus Cole in the last few months, but with a twist as MJF turned heel and Cole became a babyface.

After weeks of trying to get a match with MJF, Cole finally secured one by winning the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal and a subsequent match against Kyle O’Reilly, setting the stage for Cole vs. MJF at Worlds End .

Even though the rivalry has lost some momentum, there’s still plenty of history to draw on and a chance to get things back on track with a strong in-ring performance from MJF and Cole.
