Who will come out on top in tonight’s Arizona State vs. Iowa State Big 12 Championship game?

Michelle Gardner of the Arizona Republic previewed and predicted the game in her scouting report. She wrote that Arizona State’s lack of a kicking game could have a bearing on the outcome of the game.

She wrote: “The Sun Devils are playing with house money at this point. You hardly expected to be in this position. They will have a hard time coping with the loss of one of their best playmakers, Jordyn Tyson. Championship games often come down to the little things, and the fact that ASU doesn’t have a reliable kicker is no small thing.

What’s at stake in the Big 12 title game between Iowa State and Arizona State?

Of course, the Big 12 Championship is on the line in tonight’s Iowa State-ASU football game at AT&T Stadium, but there’s much more at stake.

The winner of that game earns a spot in the College Football Playoff, which has grown to 12 teams this season, and the bragging rights that come with it.

Just playing in this game is a huge accomplishment for the Cyclones and Sun Devils. A win and a berth in the College Football Playoff would be an incredible accomplishment for both teams and would undoubtedly help with exposure, recruiting and recognition for both programs.

So to say that there is a lot at stake in this game is an understatement.

Jordyn Tyson’s injury is significant for Arizona State against Iowa State

The Sun Devils lost their leading wide receiver to injury in their win over Arizona last week, and that’s a big blow to Arizona State, which has relied heavily on Jordyn Tyson all season.

Tyson had 75 catches for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns before suffering the injury.

No one else even comes close to the production ASU received.

How will ASU respond without Tyson? That’s a key to tonight’s Big 12 championship game against Iowa State.

How Arizona State and Iowa State got to the Big 12 Championship Game today

The Sun Devils are 5-2 this season after losing to Cincinnati on Oct. 19 (and 2-2 in the Big 12). They then rattled off five straight conference victories and secured their spot in the title game today by defeating Oklahoma State, UCF, Kansas State, BYU and Arizona.

Iowa State started the season 7-0 before losing two straight games to Texas Tech and Kansas. The Cyclones bounced back and made it to the championship game with wins over Cincinnati, Utah and Kansas State.

Colorado, BYU, Arizona State and Iowa State all finished 7-2 in Big 12 play, but ASU and ISU made it to the title game because conference tiebreaker scenarios were nullified.

First matchup between Arizona State and Iowa State in college football

The Big 12 Championship Game is the first-ever football game between Iowa State and Arizona State.

That’s hard to believe, but it’s true. The Cyclones and Sun Devils have never competed on the football field.

Since they are now Big 12 rivals, these schools should compete against each other often, even if there are 16 teams in the conference.

Being in the Big 12 Championship Game with the conference title and a spot in the College Football Playoff on the line is certainly a great way to start a rivalry.
