USPS reminds senders to send holiday mail before Christmas delivery deadlines

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – Knowing these United States Postal Service shipping deadlines can save you holiday hassle when sending holiday gifts or cards.

USPS has various shipping deadlines to ensure Christmas packages and gifts reach their domestic and international destinations by Christmas Day, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

For domestic shipping except Hawaii and Alaska, the following deadlines apply:

  • USPS Ground Advantage Service – December 18th

  • First Class Postal Service – December 18th

  • Priority Mail Service – December 19th

  • Priority Mail Express – December 21st

For shipments to Alaska and Hawaii, the Postal Service urges senders to observe these deadlines:

  • USPS Ground Advantage Service – December 16th

  • First Class Postal Service – December 18th

  • Priority Mail Service – December 19th

  • Priority Mail Express – December 20th

For packages going to military bases or international destinations, timelines vary depending on location and service type. USPS officials recommend checking their website for specific international shipping dates.

Katherine Mcgarity, Bridge Creek station manager, says carriers and employees work hard to deliver packages on time, but planning ahead helps ensure the holiday spirit arrives on time.

Mcgarity would like to remind everyone that you must not ship alcohol or anything flammable. If you’re shipping something with batteries, check the USPS website for shipping instructions. The site also has a system that allows you to track packages and avoid fraud.

“USPS.com tracking is the easiest way to track your package. “I just want to make everyone aware that I know there are a lot of text messages – I get a few myself – saying your package is being held at a packaging facility due to a zip code error,” Mcginty warned. “These are not postal emails. These are not postal trailers. These are scams. We don’t do that.”

For all you good boys and girls, December 11th is the last day to send Santa your wish list as part of USPS Operation Santa Claus.

“This will allow children across the country to send a letter to Santa Claus. “You may receive a reply letter from Santa, but it also allows the country and the community back home to help these families who are in a time of need,” Mcgarity said. “The letters will be posted on USPS.com. They can go in and adopt a family and the packages will be sent directly to the child’s home.”

Letters must be addressed to 123 Elf Lane. As these deadlines approach, USPS reminds customers that on-time shipping can make all the difference in spreading holiday cheer.
