Valero Alamo Bowl draws fans to tailgates for pregame festivities

SAN ANTONIO — Thousands of people across San Antonio joined in and performed their own pregame rituals before the Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday morning.

At the Pearl, fans like Michael Flores played some football-themed games and rejoiced in the splendor of their city.

“I love seeing the city in the spotlight. I feel like San Antonio doesn’t get enough love compared to the bigger cities. And we are one of the largest cities in the country. So, you know, I think we deserve a little love,” he said.

Rob Danzig and Orrie Gartner, two friends from college in Colorado, flew to San Antonio to explore the Pearl and watch the game.

“We have known each other for 30 years. This is a great excuse to get together. And what better place than San Antonio? “It’s such a beautiful and welcoming place,” they said.

Linh and Vince Inglima said they love traveling around the country to watch BYU games. The Cougar fans said it was really fun to bring their family to the game.

“We love having them in the Big 12 so we can try to go to all the different games and it worked out great having them here this year,” Vince Inglima said.

Fans gathered outside the Alamodome early in the morning and ate something from the grill before heading into the stadium.

“Canopy, shade, music and food make a great tailgate,” Leo Gonzales said.
