Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Tech due to weather delay in Birmingham Bowl

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt football’s Birmingham Bowl game against Georgia Tech went into a weather delay on Friday because of lightning just after 5:30 p.m. CT with 7:17 minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Commodores trailing 35-13 in leadership.

Barring any further lightning strikes, the game will resume at 6:30 p.m., according to an announcement from the bowl.

Under the NCAA’s inclement weather policy, fans must vacate the stands and play cannot resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within eight miles of Protective Stadium. A message on the video board said the game had not been canceled at this time.

Diego Pavia accounted for five touchdowns for the Commodores (6-6), scoring three points by throwing and two points by running.
