Former Green Beret and retired MMA fighter Tim Kennedy recalled competing in a military reality television competition with Vegas Cybertruck bomber Matthew Livelsberger more than a decade before the fiery explosion outside the Trump International Hotel on New Year’s Day reality television competition.

Livelsberger was featured in the third episode of the History Channel’s “Ultimate Soldier Challenge”, which aired on March 4, 2013, forcing contestants to carry out a mock SEAL Team Six operation in the raid on Osama Bin Laden.

The Army Special Forces member, who went by the nickname “Matt Berg,” allied with Tim Kennedy against two commandos apparently belonging to the Norwegian unit Forsvarets Spesialkommando (FSK) and two “rogue” military contractors.

Livelsberger and Kennedy had not met before filming the episode, but they placed first in every challenge and won the “Ultimate Soldier Challenge”.

Kennedy recalled working with Livelsberger in a post on Instagram late Friday evening.

“Thirteen years ago I participated in a shooting competition on History Channel called The Ultimate Soldiers Challenge. My partner in this competition was Matt Burg (aka Matt Livelsberger),” he wrote.

“When I saw old photos of him on the news last night, I decided it was the same guy.”

The retired MMA and UFC fighter described Livelsberger as “sincere, hardworking and talented.”

“I am stunned and heartbroken to hear the news. None of this makes any sense and I like that many others are confused and want answers,” he concluded.

In the final challenge to crown the show’s winner, Livelsberger and Kennedy completed an attack mission based on the 2011 Osama bin Laden raid that required them to eliminate live targets and obtain multiple pieces of information.

Livelsberger bragged about his ability to use any weapon during the 43-minute episode.

“I’ve never come across something I can’t pick up,” he said. “My first pistol was an M-9, which is currently in use, my first rifle was an M-4, this is a personal thing that I like to do in my free time.”

In a separate section, Livelsberger acknowledged the techniques he learned and adapted throughout his military career.

“The most important thing I learned from fighting is that you always have each other’s back. This is the only way to successfully complete missions,” said Livelsberger.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Livelsberger served in the Army for at least 19 years and joined the Green Berets in 2006.

As the show came to an end, Livelsberger claimed he was suffering from heat exhaustion and needed medical attention on set when he became dizzy and began hyperventilating.

In his victory speech, Livelsberger recognized “the guys who came before us and the guys who are currently serving in Afghanistan.”

The post-show comments mirrored those he wrote in a note that investigators found in his phone after the fiery explosion in Las Vegas.

“Why did I personally do it now? I needed to cleanse my mind of the brothers I lost and free myself from the burden of the life I took,” he wrote in a suicide note, according to officials.

Livelsberger, 37, left his Colorado Springs home on Dec. 26 after an argument with his wife, who discovered he had cheated on her before renting the Cybertruck through the Turo app.

The father-of-one then loaded the Tesla with explosives and fireworks, parked the truck in the valet at the Las Vegas Trump Hotel and then shot himself.

Livelsberger said the spectacle at Trump International was not a terrorist attack but a wake-up call and a way to get Americans’ attention.

“We are led by a weak and ruthless leadership that only serves to enrich itself,” Livelsberger said in a second statement, according to authorities.

“We are the United States of America, the best country people that ever existed! But right now we are deathly ill and on the way to collapse.”

Livelsberger, who was stationed in Afghanistan in 2017 and 2018, was considered a “Rambo-type patriot” and a staunch supporter of President-elect Donald Trump.

From July 2012 to December of that year, he joined the Army Reserve and participated in the military challenge.

The dedicated soldier returned to active duty as a special operations soldier in December 2012.
